The announcement of public tender for the concession of a regular maritime ferry boat line between Funchal and Portimão, which had already been published in Diário da República, was however canceled by the Regional Government of Madeira, due to errors in the text of the procedure.

One of the inaccuracies concerned the value of the monetary incentive that the Madeiran Government is willing to give to the operator who wins the tender, which was doubled. In the published text, 18 million euros were mentioned, for a concession of three years, when what is foreseen is a guarantee of 3 million euros per year, to safeguard damages that the shipowner making the connection may have, taking into account that this proved to be deficient in the past.

It was the high losses that led Naviera Armas, which guaranteed a weekly connection between Portimão, Funchal and Las Palmas between 2008 and 2012, to give up the concession.

The Government of Madeira will already be preparing a new version of the advertisement, to republish it. This will already be a second attempt, after the contest launched in early 2016 was left empty.
