Artisans, sausage producers, confectioners, medronho and honeydew brandies, bread and honey, and even snack bars – these are the main ingredients of yet another ArteChique – Monchique Crafts and Flavors Fair, which will take place in this village , between the 1st and the 3rd of September.

This event, which is now in its 23rd edition, calls Largo dos Chorões, in the center of Monchique, «another diversified set of beautiful handicrafts produced by the ancestral knowledge of the mountain hands and that even today define the singular expression of identity and of Monchique people's affective memory», stresses the Parish Council of Monchique, which promotes the initiative.

ArteChique is «a street fair for all tastes and ages», which this year has the presence of 23 artisans, three sausage producers, five confectioners, three producers of medronho and melosa brandy, a bakery, a honey factory, two bars and two snack bars.

Six local associations are also involved, which include sports and cultural clubs, hunter clubs, social support associations, scouts and the Associação das Guias de Portugal, which are in charge of promoting bars, traditional games, sports and related events. Social.

Thus, in addition to the already famous scissor chairs, basketwork and wickerwork, wooden spoons, patchwork bags, rag dolls, old lace, sausages, sweets, homemade jams and sweets, honey and arbutus, among others, it will be possible , once again, «to show visitors new products and new concepts in handicraft and gastronomy where the identity of tradition is combined with the authenticity of innovation», adds the Parish Council.

Two exhibitions of works carried out throughout the year by the participants of the embroidery and sewing workshops organized by the Parish Council can also be visited.

The fair's program also includes entertainment and recreation activities, among which the always disputed “3 sevens” tournament stands out, the petanque tournament, traditional games and the usual Meeting of Accordionists, on the last day of the fair (September 3rd , Sunday) at 16:00 pm.

The program also includes the donkey game, the usual solidarity walk, dedicated to supporting those in need, and a zumba class open to the population, in addition to the traditional street entertainment and musical shows at night.

The XXIII ArteChique – Crafts and Flavors Fair of Monchique is an organization of the Parish Council of Monchique, which has the collaboration of the Municipality of Monchique and local associations.

It can be visited from 10:00 am to 23:00 pm, on the 1st and 2nd of September, and from 10:00 am to 20:00 pm, on the 3rd.
