The 7th Contest “Aromas and Flavors with Fig from India”, the 3rd Technical Journeys Opuntia ficus-indica Alcoutim and the 2nd Photographic Competition WorldLand Opuntia ficus-indica these are three of the activities promoted, until November, in the municipality of Alcoutim, which claims to be the «Capital of the Figo-da-India».

The municipality of Alcoutim thus celebrates «the uniqueness, sublimity and versatility of the fig tree and its fruit».

August and September are the harvest months of the prickly pear and «the “arrival” of this sweet and succulent fruit is reason for celebration”, so the program of activities includes the tasting of innovative recipes made with this fruit, a invitation to photography lovers and the presence of internationally renowned specialists, who will be in Alcoutim to debate, deepen and promote the fig tree and the Indian fig as endogenous products of great importance in the context of the region's development.

O “Aromas and Flavors with Fig from India” contest is intended to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in order to take advantage of indigenous products and local sustainability, valuing the ancient knowledge of the Mediterranean Diet. It will take place at the Hall of the Parish Council of Martim Longo, next Saturday, the 2nd of September.

Enrollment in the competition, which has the modalities of Cakes, Sweets and Desserts and Drinks, and is intended for professionals and amateurs, is free and must be delivered by Friday, the 1st.

Entries can be made online, through the blog http://cfigodaindia.blogspot.pt/ or by sending a duly filled inscription form to: [email protected] or [email protected].

As to 2nd Photography Contest “WorldLand Opuntia ficus-indica”, open to the participation of all photography lovers, amateur and professional photographers, also aims to promote the uniqueness and versatility of Figueira-da-India and its fruit.

The contest is under the theme “Opuntia ficus indica”, therefore, photographs that portray various aspects of Figueira-da-India, in all its scope, and its surroundings, are considered to be framed in this theme.

«It is intended that each photographic work captures the representation of an infinite variety of sensations, far beyond sight – what the ears hear, what the nose smells, what the mind registers», stresses the organization.
