The Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) congratulates, in a statement, the election of Paderne as a finalist in the contest “7 Wonders of Portugal – Villages”, in the category “Rural Village”, known last Sunday, July 16th.

This is «one of the oldest settlements in the cosmopolitan municipality of Albufeira, in Barrocal» and which «keeps traces of inland villages given their strong rural characteristics», according to the RTA.

On the other hand, “it has unmissable reasons for tourist attraction”, such as the Castle of Paderne, the Roman bridge or its fountains and streams.

Desidério Silva, president of the RTA, considers that the public vote that elected Paderne as a strong candidate for one of the “7 Wonders of Portugal”, last Sunday, “is the recognition of the scenic beauty and the historical and architectural heritage of this village in the municipality of Albufeira and the diversity of tourism in the region».

The Algarve Tourism Region congratulates «the village of Cachopo, a mountain village rich in historical and archaeological heritage, for having reached the pre-final of the competition».

On August 27th, RTP broadcasts a program dedicated to the 14 villages counted, followed by a week of voting. It is in Piódão (Arganil), on September 3rd, that the chosen ones will be known, at the final gala.
