The XX Fair of the Ham de Monchique doesn't have big news, but it doesn't need to. The ham maintains the quality of previous years and does not need innovation so that, on the next weekend of July 22nd and 23rd, thousands of people will climb the mountain to taste this delicacy.

The event, which does not yet have a new house, will once again be held in the São Sebastião Park, in the former sawmill, and will once again offer «sausages, bread, sweets and handicrafts» from the Serra de Monchique, such as advanced to Sul Informação Luís Grade, councilor of the Monchique City Council.

The mayor emphasizes that, this year, «there is a strong musical scene with Adriana Lua, who always gives very good shows, and with Diogo Piçarra, who everyone knows so well and needs no introduction». Both concerts are scheduled for 22:00.

At the level of exhibitors, there will be around 40, but only five of them sell ham, something that the Monchique Chamber wants to change in future editions.

“We are going to have four factories and a traditional kitchen, which produces less quantities, just for sale at fairs. These traditional kitchens have been a bet of the Chamber and we are trying to convince more producers to adhere to this type of solution, but they show some fear», said the councilor.

While parents will enjoy the ham, sweets or attend concerts, the little ones will also have somewhere to be entertained.

«We continue to bet on donkey rides, which have been a great success among children. In addition, we're going to have inflatables so the kids can play», concludes Luís Grade.
