Salgados beach, on the coast of Albufeira, has been banned from diving since yesterday, 25th of July, and "can only come and reopen for bathing tomorrow". This is advanced prediction to Sul Informação by Sebastião Teixeira, regional delegate of the Portuguese Environmental Association (APA).
At issue is a microbiological contamination, caused by a leak in a wastewater pipe that discharged into Lagoa dos Salgados.
The construction of a dike has already allowed the lagoon to be isolated, however. "Our expectation is that the problem is already resolved," he added.
However, for the beach to reopen for bathing, it is necessary to wait for the result of the new water samples, which have already been taken in the meantime.
The APA and the City Council of Albufeira have been working “in articulation”. In fact, it was the municipality of Albufeires who “financed the work carried out”, concluded Sebastião Teixeira.
