The «pathological correction» works on the IC1-EN120, which connects Alcácer do Sal to Grândola, are completed, announced today, 13 July, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).

With the transfer of IC1 - EN120 from the concessionaire to the road network under the responsibility of IP and in view of the deficient state of this section, «it was necessary to carry out, as a matter of urgency, an intervention that would re-establish road safety conditions and a considerable gain for the user comfort,” says IP.

Within the scope of the contract, prior work was carried out, among others, with the objective of leveling the platform, canceling the heightening caused by tree roots, removing the pavement on the berms, carrying out a bituminous mixture, filling the milled areas and filling the berms.

According to IP, this was "an intervention of particular technical difficulty, whose intervention solutions were not aimed at the definitive resolution of the observed pathologies, but at their mitigation or temporary elimination".

The works were carried out without interruption of traffic, and a temporary alternating traffic signaling scheme with traffic lights was implemented.

With the conclusion of this project, IP says that «the conditions of safety and circulation of the IC1 – EN120 were reinforced: an important way for the mobility of populations in the municipalities of Alcácer do Sal and Grândola».

This work represented an investment of around 340 thousand euros, and had a completion period of 90 days.
