There are 10 sites, all linked to heritage, which are in competition, but only five will be elected as the “Wonders of the municipality of Lagoa”. Voting takes place until 31st August and the winners will be announced on 2nd September, at a gala to be held at the Centro de Congressos do Arade.
And what are the contest sites? Starting with the Natural Landscape of the Coastal Coast, passing by the Promontory of Senhora da Rocha and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, in Porches, without forgetting the Convent of São José, the proposals go through several places in the municipality.
There is also the Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, in Lagoa, the Church of São Tiago, in Estômbar, the Municipal Park of Sítios das Fontes, the Misericórdia Churches of Lagoa and Estômbar, the Chapel of Santo António, in Mexilhoeira da Carregado, and the traditional urban hull of Ferragudo.
This initiative comes under the theme “Heritage – Looking at the past towards the future” with which the Câmara de Lagoa wants to “make known the county's many sites and monuments, promoting at the same time the need to safeguard and preserve them”.
«Knowing and showing this set of some of the best expressions of Lagoa's heritage is an important step towards enhancing and preserving the most emblematic landscape, cultural and artistic wonders of the county, highlighting its unique importance, both for local populations and for those who the visit», considers that municipality.
«Through the observation and analysis of a vast number of sites, buildings and heritage sets in the county, ten of these spaces and sites stand out in this first edition that will be explored and integrated into the community dynamic, leading to their appropriation by the local associations that they will promote them with the support of the City Council and Parish Councils», he adds.
The invitation to participate in the process of choosing the “5 Wonders of the Municipality of Lagoa” is extended to all citizens, Portuguese and foreigners residing in the municipality or not. There is even a mobile application that can be downloaded here
