The 4th MonJazz, which is «one of the most renowned festivals» of its kind in the Algarve, takes place from Friday, July 7th, until Sunday (9th), at Praça da República, in Moncarapacho.

“MonJazz's qualitative leap in the 2016 edition was reinforced this year, and on the stage set up in front of the Igreja da Misericórdia, great jazz names in Portugal will perform,” according to the organization.

One of them will be the Algarvean Júlio Resende, world-renowned pianist, who on the 8th (Saturday) will relive the great songs of Amália Rodrigues in an (im)possible duet, highlighting themes such as “A Casa Portuguesa” or “Estranha Forma de Life".

Before, on Friday, there will be Gypsy jazz ( gypsy jazz) by Cool Manouche & Martin Teutscher, closing the festival on the 9th (Sunday) with the fusion jazz of Paula Rocha & guests.

With free admission, the concerts will start at 21:45 pm. The Festival is organized by the União das Freguesias de Moncarapacho and Fuzeta.

Groups and Musicians of the 4th edition of MonJazz:

Cool Manouche & Martin Teutscher
(Friday, 7th of July):
The "Cool Manouche" are a trio of jazz manouche (or gypsy jazz), a current originating in the 30s of the last century in New Orleans, and inspired by the classics interpreted and created by names such as Django Reinhardt, Stochelo, or Tchavolo Schmitt. The Dutch saxophonist Martin Teutscher is invited to this concert.

Group constitution:
Luís Fialho – Guitar
Ray Bartlett – Guitar
Paulo Matos Silva – Double bass

Guest: Martin Teutscher – Saxophone

Júlio resende
(Saturday, July 8):

Júlio Resende was born in Olhão. He started playing the piano at age 4 and studied classical music at the Conservatory of Faro. He participated in several workshops where he worked with the best masters of the Hot Club, New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Berklee College of Music, and Bill Evans Academy, during his time at the Université de St. Denis in Paris.

In 2006 he graduated in Philosophy from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and is currently Professor of Piano-Jazz at the University of Aveiro, under the Master's Degree in Music-Jazz.

His journey through the universe of jazz leads him to think about improvisation on other musical genres, such as fado, where he mixes tradition with modernity and launches, from the piano and the paths of improvisation, a new look at Portuguese song. This is how “Amália por Júlio Resende” emerged, considered one of the best musical works of this century in Portugal.

Paula Rocha & Guests
(Sunday, 9th of July):

Grouping formed on purpose for MonJazz 2017.
Paula Rocha was born in Porto and began her musical education at the Music School of the National Conservatory, having also attended several workshops at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He also developed composition work for theatre, animation, short films and dance.

For this concert – which ends the 4th MonJazz -, Paula Rocha invited some of the best jazz musicians in the Algarve, such as André Capela (saxophone), Miguel Martins (guitar), Luís Fialho (guitar), Luís Monteiro (drums) and Vio ( trombone).
