The PS lists for candidacy to local government bodies – City Council, Municipal Assembly and Parish Councils – were approved last night by a majority, at a meeting of the Political Committee of Socialists from Portimo, but it presents some surprises.
From the outset, the fact that Ana Fazenda, current councilor with the responsibility of Social Action and Culture, is no longer on the list. to what the Sul Informação found out, the councilor refused to go down to 4th position, which, in principle, could still be an eligible place, and ended up out of the list of candidates.
As new developments, the current head of Isilda Gomes' cabinet, Filipe Vital, in 3rd place, followed in 4th place by Teresa Mendes, director of the Group of Schools Eng. Nuno Mergulhão , in that city. Joaquim Castelão Rodrigues, current vice president of the Chamber, remains in 2nd place.
But the news does not stop there. Isilda Gomes' candidacy will have doctor João Amado as agent. The most curious thing is that, in the times of Manuel da Luz, João Amado was the head of the PSD's list to the Chamber, having been elected councilor.
The Santa Casa da Misericórdia provider in Portimão would later, in the 2013 Local Elections, become incompatible with the PSD and would end up sanctioned by the District Jurisdiction Council of the Algarve social democrats, with the penalty of «suspension of the right to elect and be elected to any body of the PPD/PSD for a period of two years».
But this is not the only element of the PSD from Portimo to pass to the hosts of the PS, in a movement that began in the previous elections of 2013, when councilor Pedro Xavier allied with the three socialist elements, thus allowing Isilda Gomes to have the majority in the executive that had been denied to him by voters.
The list for the Chamber will also include Evelina Madeira, who has already been a candidate for the Chamber and a Social Democratic councilor, to close the list of effective members, while Pedro Castelo Xavier is on the list, but to close the list of substitutes.
As for Fernando Imaginário, who had been elected in 2013 by the PSD to the Municipal Assembly (AM), but later had taken on his collision course with the party, for supporting Pedro Xavier's alliance with Isilda Gomes in the Chamber, this time he integrates the list of socialists to AM.
Pedro Castelo Xavier, the councilor who in 2013 had allied with the PS, guaranteeing a place in the permanent executive, and Fernando Imaginário, a member of the Municipal Assembly, were then suspended from the party for two years by the PSD/Algarve District Jurisdiction Council. By now integrating the PS lists, they definitively assume their break with the Social Democrats, the party whose Concelhia Pedro Xavier had led up to the previous Autárquicas.
If these PS lists demonstrate how the Portimonense PSD is shattered – divided between the coalition «Servir + Portimão», whose candidate for the Chamber is even CDS leader José Pedro Caçorino, the dissident candidacy supported by «We, Citizens» and now this list of socialists – the truth is that within Isilda Gomes' party things are not completely calm either. O Sul Informação he knows that some prominent socialist historicals live in a situation of “discomfort” with these lists.
Applications from the PS of Portimão to the council's municipal bodies will be officially presented on the 27th of July, in Jardim 1º de Dezembro, in front of TEMPO. The presence of Pedro Nuno Santos is expected, the secretary of State for Parliamentary Affairs who has been negotiating with the Left Bloc, PCP and Greens the agreements of the “gimmick” government.
