Five members of the international gang of robbers, who was picked up in January by the GNR of Loulé, were accused by the Public Ministry of aggravated theft, aggravated threat, aggravated injury, possession of a prohibited weapon and laundering, in a total of 26 crimes.

Defendants, Argentines and Chileans, who are in preventive detention since their arrest, will face trial by collective court, announced the MP of Faro.

The Public Prosecutor's Office explains that, "although, at the time of arrest, only two crimes of aggravated theft were suspected, one of them in attempted form, and one involving the arrest of a prohibited weapon, the investigation allowed to gather sufficient evidence of the practice eleven crimes of aggravated theft, one of which was attempted, two crimes involving the possession of a prohibited weapon, six crimes of aggravated threat and six crimes of aggravated injury, as well as one of laundering».

According to the indictment, in a period of about three weeks between December 2016 and January 2017, the defendants assaulted ten homes in Porto, Costa da Caparica, Almada, Loures and Faro.

From the houses, the robbers removed “amounts of money and valuables, namely bracelets, earrings, watches, necklaces and gold threads. It is also indicted that some of the defendants sent abroad money and objects that they had obtained from the thefts”, adds the Public Ministry.

The inquiry was directed by the Public Ministry of the DIAP of Faro and the investigation was carried out by the GNR of Loulé.
