«The X edition of the International Caracol Festival was the most successful ever», guarantees the Castro Marim City Council, responsible for organizing the event. During the three days, from 21st to 23rd July, thousands of people attended the event, consolidating the new Festival date, which used to take place in May.

«Responding to what has already happened to us in other editions, at this Festival were the best aromas and flavors of the famous snail snack, brought by the hand of talented cooks from member associations and clubs and chefs from Spain, France and Morocco, who made the team , at the international counter, with chef Abílio Guerreiro, trainer at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, in a work of fusion of tastes», adds the local authority, in a press release.

The “internationality” of the cultural poster also marked this edition, with space for Portuguese, French, Spanish and Moroccan music.

From Portugal, the popular group “Os Vocalistas”, the project “Amar Guitarra”, by Pedro Mendes, João Cuña and Luís Fialho attended the festival, in a dazzling dialogue between their guitars in various musical styles, and “Sangre Ibérico”, a band Portuguese that fuses the Portuguese musical tradition with flamenco.

Also noteworthy is the concert by the Banda Musical Castromarinense, the representation of Castro Marim on stage.

France was introduced by the performance of teacher and dancer Michel Sapateado, also considered by many to be the father of tap dancing in Portugal.

The big concert on Saturday was by Raúl Rodriguez, Spanish producer, composer, singer and guitarist, son of renowned singer Martirio.

From Morocco, the sound and dance of the group Al-Bashirah, with Arab and Oriental music, also made up of Syrian musicians, who bring together the different Andalusian music schools and the different musical cultures of the Arab world.

Added to the ingredients of the International Caracol Festival, according to the City Council, «the excellent location of the event, on Colina do Revelim de Santo António, in Castro Marim, is a privileged viewpoint for the territory, with 360º visibility».

Considered as a «great stimulus to local commerce and local communities, which are represented in the event's taverns», the International Caracol Festival aims to «affirm Castro Marim as a destination for the best snails in the Algarve and promote traditional products, the Mediterranean cuisine and culture'.
