The Orthopedics stopovers at the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve units are guaranteed «not only for this weekend, but until the end of the summer», guaranteed this Thursday, 20 July, the president of the Board of Directors of the Center Hospital of the Algarve Joaquim Ramalho.

The head of the CHA guaranteed that the Orthopedics service of the hospital in the Algarve capital will be reinforced until Sunday, to ensure the response during the International Meeting of the Moto Clube de Faro, adding that no problem is expected with shortages of doctors in this specialty in the emergency room until the end of summer, throughout the region.

These may have been the last public statements by Joaquim Ramalho as chairman of the Board of the Algarve hospitals, taking into account that, at roughly the same time, it was approved by the Council of Ministers the creation of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA), which will replace the CHA.

From the moment the Government's decision is published in Diário da República, the law determines that the current Board of Directors falls, and a new team may then be reappointed or chosen, which indicates that it will happen.

For now, who is still “in charge” is Joaquim Ramalho, who also admitted that the problems related to the lack of pediatricians still exist, namely in Portimão, although «the pediatric emergencies are not at issue», despite the difficulties.

At a time when the approval of the creation of CHUA was not yet public, the person responsible for the CHA considered that the new model planned for hospitals in the Algarve has "the added value" of integrating a component "of teaching and research".

But, he warned, "this does not solve all the problems", namely the region's lack of attractiveness for doctors. "There are other issues, such as the lack of technological and physical infrastructure and organizational problems", he defended, on the sidelines of a visit that introduced journalists to the new equipment acquired by the Hospital de Faro.
