The Commission of Users of Via do Infante (CUVI) says it regrets that «once again, the Algarve is once again experiencing a hellish summer» because «nothing has changed» in the issue of tolls on the A22.

Therefore, next Sunday, July 23, that Committee will be present at the motorcycle parade of the International Motorclub of Faro, similarly to what has happened in other years.

“The PS government continues to pursue the same policy as the previous government – it persists in maintaining unfair and criminal tolls that continue to destroy many families and the Algarve”, considers CUVI.

“Inclusively, PS deputies have voted in the Assembly of the Republic, alongside the PSD and the CDS/PP, against several proposals from other political forces that propose the elimination of tolls on Via do Infante”, he adds.

In a statement, CUVI also addresses the works on the EN125 that "are far from ending in a part of the road".

«And it is not even known when the requalification of the stretches between Vila Real de Santo António and Olhão begins. To aggravate the situation, we have the wrong requalification of the road, where continuous lines proliferate in straights with several kilometers, to the despair of users, entrepreneurs and other entities», he considers.

Still, just like the Sul Informação it's already taken care of, this issue of continuous traces may be revised.

That commission goes further in the accusations by saying that the "governors, the concessionaire and other political leaders" are "joking with the Algarve and its populations".

All of these issues “have contributed to the increase in road accidents, including in the re-qualified sections, with many deaths and injuries, which proves that the EN125 is not an alternative to the Via do Infante”, says CUVI.

According to the commission, «since the beginning of the year and until the 15th of July, 5241 accidents have already occurred in the Algarve (249 more than in the previous year) with 19 fatalities (6 more than in 2016) and 90 serious injuries (17 more than in 2016). in 125), much of it on “urban street” XNUMX».

CUVI also has a word for Prime Minister António Costa. «You can't behave like Passos Coelho! The prime minister has already acknowledged that the EN125 is not an alternative, that it is an authentic “cemetery” and has promised to study the public-private partnership (PPP) contract and eliminate tolls in the Algarve, the main tourist region in the country».

«In addition, the PPP of Via do Infante aggravates the ruin of the region and the country, by allowing the channeling of many millions into the pockets of the concessionaire. What is promised is owed! How many more dead, how many more seriously injured, how many more families will be sacrificed on the altar of our rulers' icy insensitivity? No, this tragedy cannot continue,” he adds.

This summer, the Commission of Users will carry out «another set of actions for the elimination of tolls on the Via do Infante and for the correct upgrading of the EN125».

Some of these initiatives, such as horns, slow marches and anti-toll protests, will be marked "by the surprise factor", according to CUVI.

The commission does not rule out, either, protests "near the vacation homes" of the governors.
