The Digital Hemeroteca do Algarve, which wants to be the safeguard of all periodicals produced in the region, is voted under the Participatory Budget of Portugal (OPP).

The project was designed by Luís Guerreiro, president of the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation, from Querença (Loulé).

The idea is that this Hemeroteca guarantees «the safeguarding of all periodicals, newspapers and magazines, produced in the Algarve from 1833 to the present day, in digital format and for easy public consultation», explains that Foundation.

This work would be done within two years.

In the letter of intent, Luís Guerreiro explains the interest and importance of this material as a source of research on the region and its relations with national and international realities.

«The Algarve has hundreds of titles of periodical publications in the public, sports, tourist, religious, trade associations, commercial nature, covering the last years of the monarchy, the First Republic, the Estado Novo and democracy. Well, the history of the Algarve over the last 180 years is reflected in these publications and they themselves made the history of the region», he says.

"Currently, most of these collections are found in the National Library, many of them in a high state of degradation, and in other libraries and archives in the country, which makes access difficult", according to the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation.

The process is simple. just access here , fill in what is requested… and vote (until 15 September).

The Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation is available to welcome the local population and provide support during the voting process. All you have to do is visit the library of that entity, accompanied by your identification document.
