The collection of the João de Deus House-Museum, in São Bartolomeu de Messines, was enriched with a donation of cultural goods, furniture, works of art and decoration, belonging to the Maria Guilhermina de Deus Ramos Soares Lopes Foundation, in Lisbon.

The solemn act of handing over the donation took place last June and the objects now undergo a process of sorting and treatment, in order to later be musealized and incorporated into the permanent exhibition of this cultural equipment.

The donated pieces belonged to the Maria Guilhermina Ramos Soares Lopes Foundation, created in memory of one of the granddaughters of the poet and educator João de Deus, who, in the beginning of 2017, expressed his interest in donating to the House-Museum in the homeland of the author of various cultural goods, including a desk from the century. Among the donated goods, there are also objects of a decorative nature and art, such as an inkwell and a charcoal drawing depicting the poet's granddaughters, the three daughters of João de Deus Ramos Júnior: Maria Guilhermina de Deus Ramos, Maria da Luz de Deus Ramos and Maria Joana de Deus Ramos.

This donation also includes numerous first editions of works by João de Deus.

The Municipality of Silves and the João de Deus House-Museum are grateful for this gesture by the Foundation and highlight the «importance of the donated pieces, which, being unique in the daily use of the poet and educator and his family, will enrich the documentary and collection in a peculiar way. museum of this cultural space in the town of São Bartolomeu de Messines and in the municipality of Silves».
