The 15 athletes from the acrobatic gymnastics section of the Imortal Desportivo Clube who became national and regional champions this season were honored by the City Council of Albufeira, in a ceremony that took place on Tuesday, 11 July.
The gymnasts were welcomed by the mayor of Albufeira Carlos Silva e Sousa in Paços do Concelho and received a replica of the municipality's coat of arms.
Among those honored are the duo Alicia Santos and Madalena Ferreira, who secured the titles of regional and national champions in the Children's category. In the initiated, the mixed pair Rodrigo Grilo and Diana Teixeira and the female pair Rita dos Anjos Guerreiro and Emma Gomes, who were regional champions, were honored, as were the teams formed by Rodrigo Grilo, Diana Teixeira, Rita dos Anjos Guerreiro, Emma Gome, Carolina Guerreiro, Catarina Alves and Luisa Carvalhal.
Imortal's youth athletes also managed to secure regional titles, namely the female pair consisting of Carolina Mateus and Monika Johannsdóttir and the male pair consisting of Tomás Alves and Martim Martins.
«It is also worth mentioning the performances of the female pair Tatiana Pereira and Matilde Mateus, who won the title of Regional Champions in the Junior class. In this tribute, the athletes were accompanied by their teachers and coaches, Sónia Cândido, Isabel Rodrigues and Miguel Fonseca, and by the directors Sónia Alves, Orlanda Cunha, Margarida Neves and David Alves», according to the City Council of Albufeira.
The mayor of Albufeira Carlos Silva e Sousa took advantage of the ceremony to point out that «Albufeira has demanding athletes, who achieve good results as competitors», adding that with the support given to the club, the municipality is investing in the future of these gymnasts , «so that they may be happy».
