João Guerreiro, former rector of the University of Algarve, is the chairman of the independent technical committee that will assess and investigate what happened in the fires in Pedrógão Grande.
The name of the former president of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) was chosen by the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities.

These names are joined by «Paulo Fernandes, PhD and specialized in Forestry and Environmental Sciences, from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, António Salgueiro, administrator and technician of the GIFF company, specialist with twenty years of professional experience in the sector forestry in the area of fire risk management, in the development of the use of controlled fire in Portugal, and the North American Richard de Neufville, engineer, specialist in technological systems, belonging to the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society of the United States of America'.
As for the remaining names, «they had already been designated by Ferro Rodrigues, after hearing the parties», adds that daily newspaper.
