The Volta ao Algarve à Vela, the most important regatta in the Algarve, returns to the region's waters between the 13th and 15th of July, passing through Lagos, Albufeira, Olhão and Tavira.
João Marques, president of the Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro, stresses that the event is intended to «prestige national sailing and pay homage to the Algarve and its coast as one of the best sailing courses in the world».
This year, Volta ao Algarve à Vela celebrates a quarter of a century of existence, presenting, according to the organization, improvements, namely in the reception of sailors and in the way it will receive all guests, Portuguese and tourists, to join the vast social program that was created.
Organized by the Clube Naval de Faro, in collaboration with Clube Vela de Lagos, Marina Yach Club de Albufeira and Clube de Vela de Tavira, and with the support of RTA, Municipal Councils of Faro, Albufeira, Olhão and Tavira, Volta ao Algarve hopes to bring together a fleet of 30 sailboats from various countries, including Portuguese representatives, totaling 200 sailors.
