The Municipal Regulation for the Licensing of Occasional Camping and Caravaning Activity and for the Exercise of Motorcaravaning Activity, from Silves, in addition to being the first to encompass this component of motorhome, enters into force this Thursday, 8 June.

The fact of incorporating motorhomes «will contribute in a particularly positive way to the organization and qualification of this segment of tourist activity in the region», according to the Algarve's Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR).

Following the presentation of the study on the characterization of motorhomes in the Algarve and the proposal to define a Regional Strategy for Hosting Motorhomes, the CCDR established a cooperation protocol with AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, the Algarve Tourism Region and the ATA – Algarve Tourism Association, on 21 January 2014, aiming at the creation and promotion of RAARA – Support Network for Motorcaravans in the Algarve Region.

It encompasses "currently about 26 reception units (campsites and service areas)" and "supports the development of regulatory framework mechanisms, which resulted in this municipal regulation", adds the CCDR.

The regulation, «within the framework of the legal determinations in force in matters of land use planning and the environment, preservation of the landscape and natural values of the county, but also in the perspective of the promotion and diversification of local-based economies in a context of legality, will contribute in a decisive way to discipline the activity of motorhomes in the municipality and articulate this type of tourism with the environmental, social and cultural aspects of the vast and rich heritage of Silves», he considers.

CCDR Algarve says, then, that this municipal regulation is «a decisive step towards the consolidation of the Regional Strategy for Hosting Motorhomes, since it can be articulated with the other municipalities in the region and constitute a standard document for the regulation. activity and promote the desired regulatory harmonization in the region».
