«It's beautiful» the new GNR Territorial Post in Salir. Constança Urbano de Sousa, minister of Internal Administration, classified in this way the new “house” of the Guard soldiers who work in the interior of the municipality of Loulé, inaugurated this Tuesday.

If the new GNR post deserves praise, the old one is not missed. D. Manuel Neto Quintas, Bishop of the Algarve, who visited the former working place of the GNR soldiers in that parish "sometimes", the last of them on a pastoral visit, had promised to be present at the inauguration of this new space.

D. Manuel Quintas

Some soldiers did not forget the promise and, over the past few days, they contacted him several times so that this “important event” would not fail, as the prelate called it. “We dreamed of this moment”, added D. Manuel Quintas.

After having «unworthy» infrastructures, as Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, called them, the GNR post in Salir is now distinguished «by its modernity and functionality, allowing for an increase in the quality of the service provided», praised Manuel Couto, General Commander of the GNR, who thanked the mayor for "the commitment to make these infrastructures available to the Guard'.

The Salir Territorial Post «has an action area of about 460 square kilometers, serving a community of 6300 inhabitants» and, last year alone, «1300 patrols were carried out, which allows to perceive an environment of peace, security and tranquility public,” added Manuel Couto.

Vítor Aleixo deserved the minister's thanks

Vítor Aleixo recalled that a new post for the GNR in Salir was "an old aspiration" and that this Tuesday was "a happy day, because, after many years of policing always with the same will, we gave these men decent working conditions'.

For the mayor, «the generosity shown in relation to the Central Administration», with the ceding of this space to the GNR, is due to the understanding «of the difficulties arising from the recent past of great budgetary constraints».

A help that the minister Constança Urbano de Sousa thanked, because «the completion of the work was only possible that way».

The government official admitted that "in recent years, there has been a disinvestment in police infrastructure, which is in a state of disrepair, and it is impossible for the Central State to resolve everything overnight."

However, Constança Urbano de Sousa established the objective that, «within five years, many of the infrastructures receive an intervention similar to this one, which allows men and women to carry out their work more fruitfully».

The GNR soldiers working in Salir already have these conditions and, considers Vítor Aleixo, the Salirenses have become "safer".
