Cultural Tourism, Mountain Bike Trails and Accessible Tourism are just some of the new projects that Rota Vicentina has planned for the next two years, in a new phase of expansion.

In addition to the walking trails and more sporting nature activities and in contact with nature, the current offer of the Rota Vicentina will be associated with cultural and artistic tourism products – which value arbutus, cork, fishing, among other aspects. identities of the Southwest of Portugal – and a strategy will also be developed to promote the use of the trails by tourists with special needs, with a view to covering accessible tourism.

As far as mountain biking is concerned, a 1.200-kilometre route is planned in the municipality of Odemira, which will result in an integrated network of pedestrian and cycle routes in the region.

Pedestrian trails will also be heavily invested, and from the 450 existing ones, the Rota Vicentina will grow to 750 kilometers, largely based on the creation of small circular paths.

In parallel to the development of these new products, an ambitious campaign will also be launched to promote the region and its Natural and Cultural Heritage, through the promotion of workshops and presentations at international events, and the production and dissemination of various promotional materials, with special highlight for a new video and a mobile application.

The promotion will also be based on the objectives defined for this new phase of the Rota Vicentina, namely in the diversification of supply and markets, with the encouragement of new forms and motivations for consumption, and awareness of the region's heritage and identity issues, generating associated value to these same elements.

This expansion process of Rota Vicentina, which was considered one of the six most beautiful coastal trails in the world by the tourism magazine Condé Nast Traveler, it is part of a strategic investment under the Portugal 2020 Programme, financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

It also has the support of the six Municipalities that the Rota Vicentina crosses, namely Sines, Santiago do Cacém, Odemira, Aljezur, Vila do Bispo and Lagos, as well as Turismo de Portugal, of the Algarve Tourism Region (ERT Algarve) , the Alentejo Tourism Region (ERT Alentejo) and the Alentejo Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (ARPTA).
