Benagil beach, in Lagoa, starts the bathing season with a new parking lot for 300 vehicles and better mobility for its visitors.

After the traffic jams caused, last year, by the abusive parking of vehicles along the steep access roads to that beach, which reached its peak in August, the Câmara de Lagoa «equated the use of the available space in Benagil, to make a parking area next to the beach», announced the municipality.

This new park will improve the parking of vehicles, as well as “the mobility of those who frequent that beach, with the placement of vertical and horizontal signs”.

After the works were completed, at the invitation of the Mayor, members of the GNR, Port Authority of Portimão, Maritime Police, Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters and Civil Protection visited the site, together with municipal technicians, according to the municipality. Lagoon, "have shown themselves satisfied with the solution found, which will benefit that area, respecting the constraints of the area involved and all safety requirements."

The Chamber of Lagoa regrets, however, «it was not possible to [find] the same alternative for Praia da Marinha».

This year, six Blue Flags were hoisted on the coastal beaches of the municipality – Vale de Olival, Senhora da Rocha, Vale Centeanes, Carvoeiro, Caneiros and Praia Grande (Ferragudo).

For next year, the municipality has already announced its intention to «submit more applications, taking into account the well-being of residents and tourists who, throughout the summer, visit our beaches».
