The municipality of Odemira will celebrate Fisherman's Day, on the 24th of June, in the village of Azenha do Mar, with a convivial lunch, musical entertainment and also debates and speeches on the fishing sector.

According to the Chamber of Odemira, the initiative "has the objective of reflecting on the main difficulties and future of the sector and, at the same time, promoting interaction between the fishing community in the municipality."

The party starts at 12:3 and will bring together the fishing community of the four fishing ports of the municipality of Odemira: Azenha do Mar and Entrada da Barca (S. Teotónio Parish), Portinho do Canal (Vila Nova de Milfontes Parish) and Lapa de Doves (Parish of Longueira/Almograve).

The program, said the Municipality of Odeemira, "includes the traditional lunch where seafood will be highlighted, musical entertainment with local artists and a moment for interventions and debate on the reality of fishing activity in the county."

The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Odemira, Association of Owners of Artisanal Fishing and the Siege of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, Parish Council of S. Teotónio, Cultural and Development Association of Fishermen and Residents of Azenha do Mar and by fishermen from Fishing port of Azenha do Mar.

The commemorations are also supported by the Parish Councils of Longueira/Almograve and Vila Nova de Milfontes, the Administration of the Port of Sines, Docapesca and the Captaincy of the Port of Sines.
