The Slavery Route Museum Nucleus, at the Dr. José Formosinho Municipal Museum, in Lagos, was awarded twice with the APOM 2017 Awards, delivered yesterday at the Soares dos Reis National Museum, in Porto.

The Slavery Route Museum Nucleus, which opened a year ago, on the 9th of June, in the building in downtown Lagos known as the Slave Market, won two honorable mentions, one for his work in the area of Museology and the other for his Management and Multimedia Application.

The Money Museum, in Lisbon, was the big winner, receiving the Best Museum of the Year award.

The Center dedicated to the Slavery Route, in Lagos, was the only museological structure in the Algarve this year awarded by the Portuguese Museology Association (APOM).

Taking into account the limited space of the building that houses the most recent nucleus of the Municipal Museum of Lagos, a commitment was made to create content that can be accessed through mobile devices.

The Center has some emblematic pieces, but the visit is mainly made through multimedia contents, which complement the information given by these pieces and which are made available through new technologies, such as tablets that, upon arrival, are provided to visitors, so that they complete the visit.

But, because the reduced area of the two floors of the Slave Market building prevented, for example, the installation of an elevator that could guarantee access, to the upper floor, for people with reduced mobility, today's technology has also made it possible to create an answer original: in the Museological Center there is a device that allows a virtual visit, with augmented reality glasses.

As for the application that allows the most avid visitors of information to access content far beyond what is displayed, via tablet or smartphone, this app can be downloaded from the Playstore (for Android) and from the Apple virtual store, for the device of each. There is only one condition: the app only works locally, that is, at the Museum Center itself.

A year ago, at the inauguration of this museum structure in Lagos, Luís Filipe de Castro Mendes, the Minister of Culture who presided over the ceremony, was also the first to use both the tablet and the augmented reality glasses.
