Whether doing sport or learning while playing, there will be many activities that people from 6 to 16 years old will have at their disposal, to occupy their free time during the summer. hosted by the City Council, it starts on June 26th and continues until August 28th, with activities at the Museum, Municipal Library, Quinta Pedagógica, various school facilities and the Sports Complexes of Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande.

On the 26th of June, the first Monday after the end of school, the educational workshops “Toys of my childhood” at the Museum of Portimão will begin, aimed at children aged 7 to 12 years. Until the 28th of July, five groups of children, one per week, will be able to give free rein to creativity, while stimulating «their capacity for expression and group work», according to the Portimão City Council.

Registration is weekly and has a cost of 20 euros, paid in materials that appear on a list delivered at the time of registration. More information can be obtained through the telephone number 282 405 235 / 230 and the email [email protected].

Quinta Pedagógica de Portimão also launches its program of activities on the 26th of June and extends it until the 18th of August. Here, there will be activities aimed at children from 6 to 10 years old, where contact with nature will be privileged. "In this rural space, in the middle of the city, it is possible to practice various traditional trades simultaneously with food and environmental education", framed the municipality.

Participants can attend the morning shift, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, or in the afternoon, from 14:00 pm to 17:00 pm. Weekly registration costs 12 euros per shift, or 20 euros for the full day. More information can be obtained by calling 282 480 730 or email [email protected].

Learning to play is also the motto of the initiatives designed by the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, which once again promotes the project «Five Stories, Five Weeks and a Night» between 24 July and 26 August, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. Here, residents from 6 to 10 years old will be able to participate “in ateliers and workshops inspired by children's literature, where stories are told and written, puppets are built, scenarios are painted and imaginary worlds are created”.

The project ends in a big way with a «Special Night at the Library», on 26th August, «where the children will perform games and adventures in the dark within the scope of the five stories explored during the holidays», according to the Portimão Town Council.

Those who prefer can also spend their holidays practicing different sports, in another edition of the Portimão Sports Holidays, which run from June 26th to August 11th. The activities can be enjoyed by children and young people from 6 to 16 years old and are divided into three shifts. The objective is “to provide healthy occupation of the summer holidays through various sporting, recreational, cultural, civic and environmental education activities”.

Enrollments will take place in different locations and can be made for the 3 shifts at the same time, from the 19th of June. For the Portimão nucleus, they will take place at the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo de Portimão and to attend the centers of Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, those interested should go to the sports complexes in each parish.

Anyone who wants to participate in the 1st round will have to register by the 22nd of June. The deadline for registration for the 2nd and 3rd shifts are the 6th and 20th of July, respectively. The activity plan for each nucleus and shift can be consulted online.
