The new routes from the Airport of Faro for the French cities of Nice and Lille were inaugurated this Friday, the 9th, with a flight baptism and a welcome reception dedicated to passengers upon the arrival of the Airbus A320 from Lille.

These new routes to France are the result of an effort by the Airport of Faro, the Algarve Tourism Association and the airline easyJet.

With the inauguration of new services to Nice and Lille, the Airport of Faro will connect the Algarve to 10 French airports, with the French market, this summer, being «responsible for a marked increase of 30% in the total supply of seats compared to last year's summer, stresses ANA.

The regular operation of easyJet, the second largest airline in Faro, «came to confirm during the season the company's major commitment to the French market and an extraordinary appreciation of the Algarve as a tourist region of excellence».

José Lopes, easyJet director for Portugal, commented: «we are extremely pleased to launch the connections between Faro-Nice and Faro-Lille and reinforce our ambition by providing 2.4M seats for operation at the airport of Faro during the current fiscal year'.

“The launch of these new routes underlines easyJet's commitment to Portuguese territory. We have a close relationship with France and, for this reason, it is very important to consolidate this commitment to investing in destinations that are of interest to the Portuguese and the French. Lille and Nice are two fabulous French cities and are now connected to the south of Portugal through Faro», added the person in charge.

This easyJet operation to Nice and Lille will serve the Algarve region 3 times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) in the summer season and extend into the winter season with two weekly frequencies (Mondays and Fridays).

With these new services Faro-Nice and Faro-Lille, easyJet will make 244 more moves this summer in Faro.

The new easyJet routes will be operated by Airbus A320, with a capacity of 186 seats.
