The CDU presented its municipal candidates to the parishes of Montenegro and Santa Bárbara de Nexe, on the past 22nd and 25th of June, respectively.

As for Montenegro, this presentation took place at Largo do Povo, with the names of the candidates to be announced one by one, thus allowing the dozens of participants who attended the presentation to get to know the men and women who will compete on the CDU lists for the parish of Montenegro.

The initiative was attended by all the first candidates to other municipal bodies in the municipality of Faro, as well as the municipal representative Joaquim Barbio.

The event was attended by Catarina Marques, candidate for the Parish Assembly of Montenegro, and António Mendonça, candidate for the City Council.

Catarina Marques highlighted the «distinguishing character of the CDU project to defend the interests and improve the living conditions of the population of Montenegro, investing in a close relationship with the population, trying to listen and be present to solve the many and serious problems with which Montenegro is confronted after successive PSD mandates,” according to the CDU.

Some examples are, according to this political party, the «problems of the absence of urban planning, with emphasis on the problems of parking and road safety, the attack on the populations of Praia de Faro, as well as its accessibility, and restrictions on its bathing use, the unutilization of the potential presence of infrastructures of great importance for the municipality, and even for the region, such as the University of the Algarve pole or the Airport».

This initiative also highlighted the «distinguishing character of the CDU intervention carried out in this current term in the Parish Assembly of Montenegro, as in the denunciation of the problems raised by the privatization of ANA Aeroportos, by the then PSD/CDS government, in the intransigent defense of the rights of populations of the barrier islands, to the right to live, work and produce in the Ria Formosa, against the closure of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos branch in Gambelas, in defense of public schools or against tolls on Via do Infante».

In the wake of this, António Mendonça intervened «appreciating the hard work that the elected CDUs have done in all the municipal bodies of the municipality of Faro, always articulated, and in coherence with regional and national positions and intervention in the Assembly of the Republic».

The candidate for president of the Chamber of Faro he also called for "Montenegro to continue to bet on the CDU as a factor for growth and development, and that it can count on the team of candidates now presented."

With regard to Santa Bárbara de Nexe, the presentation took place at a «animated convivial lunch» that brought together more than 100 participants, in Bordeira. This initiative was attended by all the first CDU candidates to the municipal bodies of Faro, as well as the municipal representative Joaquim Barbio.

Sérgio Martins, candidate for the Parish Council, and current president, took the floor to highlight the main points of the CDU project for Santa Bárbara de Nexe.

«CDU presents the re-application based on the work we have carried out in recent years: we paved paths, made sidewalks and made several improvement works throughout the parish. We developed the culture, we continued the projects of the Canteiro Museum and Terra do Accordeão with homage to the accordionists and we increased the subsidies for the charolas and for the associations», he said in his speech.

In addition to this, “we supported and developed initiatives for the elderly, we managed to get another family doctor working in our parish and we managed to reopen the Health Center in Bordeira”.

Now… «we want to move forward uniting, we want to work together and respecting differences. CDU believes in the potential of the parish of Santa Bárbara de Nexe,” he added.

For the future, one of the main objectives is to «continue the improvement of roads and paths» as well as «continue to pressure the City Council to improve roads and paths. The rural parishes of Faro – Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Conceição and Estoi – annually pay around 10 million euros in IMI. The City Council of Faro receives so many millions and it is unacceptable that rural roads and paths continue to be miserable”, he considered.

Another of the purposes is «to have a Canteiro and Accordion Museum in the area of culture, in Bordeira, to increase support for associations and create a diversified and outstanding cultural movement in our parish at the regional and municipal level. Such a bet on culture will bring a new type of tourist, more residents and tourists to our parish», he said.

In addition to this, it is also an objective to have “in the area of sport a properly equipped soccer field in the parish”.

Botelho Agulhas, candidate for the Municipal Assembly of Faro, and António Mendonça, candidate for the City Council.

The current councilor of the municipality of Farense listed the basic proposals of the CDU project for Faro: the need for greater municipal public investment, the enhancement of work and workers in the municipality and parishes, the defense of the restoration of extinct parishes – Conceição, Estoi, Sé and São Pedro, the requalification of urban public space, or the definition of better housing policies.

By all those present “the distinctive character of the elected CDUs in the various municipal bodies of Faro, with relevance to the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe where the CDU has had the majority for over 20 years».
