The Câmara de Lagoa will build a new School Center in Mexilhoeira da Carregação, in an investment of around 1 million euros, whose works will begin in the first half of 2018 and take place «without any constraint to the normal functioning of the school».
The preliminary project for the requalification and expansion of the School Center – with the construction of the new central nucleus from scratch – was presented on the 19th, by the Mayor and by the technical team working on it, at the EB1 School in Mexilhoeira. The objective was “to listen to the opinions of the school community, teachers, parents and students”.
The new School Center will have six classrooms for the 1st cycle and two for the pre-school, as well as a cafeteria, library, support and teacher rooms, administrative services and a covered multi-sport, which may also be used by the population, on a conditioned schedule.
The rooms will be air-conditioned and in all spaces there will be direct access to information technologies, since, underlines the Câmara de Lagoa, "this is intended to be a school for the future".
Mayor Francisco Martins stressed that “although the project for changes to the current school was already in the budget for 2017, a new situation now arises that has to do with the reality that the proposal presented was not the most correct answer for substantially improve conditions for students who attend this structure”. This is now possible “given the completion of the acquisition of the adjacent land, thus allowing a different view of the entire space”, added the mayor.
Parents and teachers were making contact – through projected images – with the existing differences between the current buildings and the remodeling proposal presented by the technicians, «with the requalification of recreational spaces more consistent with the freedom of movement for preschool children and 1st cycle of basic education».
