Quarteira's 18th anniversary as a city will be marked on May 13th with a program of activities that begins on May 12th, with a concert with the fado singer Gisela João at Praça do Mar and ends at the same place, the following day, with a show that brings together young music talents from the municipality of Loulé.
After a first moment of celebration on the 12th, with a concert by Gisela João, which has free admission, the City Day of Quarteira itself begins with the observance of the tradition of Alvorada and Hastear da Bandeira, scheduled for 9:00 am ahead to the Municipal Center of Quarteira. Shortly after, there is, in the same place, the performance of the Banda Filarmónica Artistas de Minerva (9:30 am).
At 10:00 am, the exhibition “Gotas de Mar” will open, with works performed by Cantinho da Amizade, followed by a performance by Tuna da Academia do Saber at 10:30 am. Starting at 11:30 am, in the auditorium of the Municipal Center, the awards for School Merit Recognition and Parish Citizens of Merit will take place.
In the afternoon, there are inaugurations and works launchings. In this field, a highlight was the launch of the contract for the new Quartel of the Territorial Subdetachment of the GNR of Quarteira, which will occupy the building of the former Fire Brigade, located next to the Calçadão, which «will be the target of expansion and reconversion works in a space with all conditions for the soldiers who work in this city», according to the Câmara de Loulé, which will invest almost one million euros in this work.
The requalification of the Street Workout space, on the Calçadão Nascente de Quarteira, has already been completed, an «area open to the population for the practice of sports in the city» where new equipment has been installed. The opening is scheduled for 16 pm.
At 15:00 pm, a visit will be promoted to the public space rehabilitation work on Coppingen and Stuttgart Streets, near the Church of S. Pedro do Mar.
The party continues with lots of music, guaranteed by many bands and artists from the municipality of Loulé. Be Myself (17:00 pm), Sacik Brow (18:00 pm), Miranda Eloquente (19:00 pm), The Road (20:30 pm), Sara Lawrence&The Bullets (21:30 pm) and The Fisherman (22:30 pm) will go up on stage at Praça do Mar.
