Two Jazz Big Band battles are scheduled for the nights of Friday, May 19th, at Centro de Congressos do Arade, in Pachal (Lagoa), and Saturday, 20th, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, always starting at 21:30 pm.
There will be two jazz orchestras on stage, with almost 40 musicians in total: the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, with Maria Anadon (voice), versus the Jorge Costa Pinto Orchestra, with George Esteves (voice). In Faro, this performance is part of the “Os Dias do Jazz” initiative.
The two formations will face off in a great show of music, in keeping with the oldest traditions of the heydays of the great jazz orchestras.
“Battles” between orchestras were common in the 30s, especially in American ballrooms, where two and sometimes three orchestras played simultaneously. The race was inevitable, and the best “winned”.
