Elza Soares, the “black bossa” diva, will be on the 14th of June at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, to star in a concert based on her work «A Mulher do Fim do Mundo», for which she won a Latin Grammy in 2016. The Brazilian artist comes to the Algarve as part of a national tour, which includes a concert at the Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon, participation in NOS Primavera Sound, in Porto, and a concert in Funchal.

"Mulher do Fim do Mundo" is, according to Teatro das Figuras, "an apocalyptic album of dirty and experimental samba, where themes such as racism, domestic violence, transsexuality and drugs are addressed, passing through various musical genres from samba to rock, without forgetting rap and electronics». This "work highly acclaimed by international critics" was the 34th album by the octogenarian singer.

«All his music reflects a troubled life. Born in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, the daughter of a washerwoman and a worker and amateur musician, she was forced to marry by her father when she was 12 years old and at 13 she was already a mother. His answer became famous when, at age 16, he made his radio debut, and because of his frail figure, he was asked which planet he came from, to which the young Elza replied “From the planet of hunger”, according to the TMF.

And it wasn't just his childhood that was marked by difficulties and misfortunes. “Of the seven children he had, he lost four in tragic circumstances. She was also devastated by the death of one of her ex-husbands, the mythical Garrincha, to whom she was married for fifteen years. Elza had to deal with the footballer's alcoholism and was a victim of domestic violence», added Teatro das Figuras.

Currently, the Brazilian artist «lives the apotheosis of a life dedicated to music and takes to the stage an emotional “opera” that portrays the ills of society, prompting viewers to reflect on the condition of the individual in a violent society, with social and political criticism of the Brazilian reality and why not of the world».
Tickets for the show cost 25 euros for the first audience and 22 euros for the second.
