The Municipality of Mértola proceeded, as has been usual practice in recent years, the execution of fuel management lanes, the so-called fire breaks, on the land it owns, in the Forest Perimeter of Mértola and provided for in the PMDFCI - Municipal Plan for the Defense of Forest Against Fires.
The work covers an area of approximately 500 hectares around the urban perimeter of Mértola, an investment that exceeds seven thousand euros.
“Cleaning and maintenance works are an asset, as they act as the first barrier to protect against the spread of forest fires, particularly in areas with greater forest density and steep slopes on the ground”, stresses the municipality.
