The Algarve's Ana Cabecinha was classified this Sunday in 2nd place, in the 20 km march of the European Cup, which was disputed in Podebrady, in the Czech Republic.

The athlete from Pechão, national champion of the sport, finished the race in 1:29.44 hours, time that corresponds to her best mark of the time.

The Portuguese marcher, who was 6th at the Rio2016 Olympic Games, was almost a minute away from the winner, Italian Antonella Palmisano, 4th in Rio de Janeiro, who finished in 1:27.57, while Spanish Laura García-Caro completed the podium, with 1:29.57.

Ana Cabecinha already has the minimum for the London World Cups, which take place in August, two years after the 5th place she achieved in Beijing.

Another Portuguese, Mara Ribeiro, was ranked 18th and set her personal best at 1:35.45, while Inês Henriques was disqualified.

Earlier, Pedro Isidro had been ranked 8th in the 50 km march, with a time of 3:56:38 hours, ensuring minimum for the Athletics World Championships.

Ukrainian Ivan Banzeruk, with 3:48.15, was the winner of the race, followed by his compatriot Ihor Hlvan, who finished in 3:48.38, while Italian Michele Antonelli was 3rd, with 3:49.07.

Even today, João Vieira and Miguel Carvalho participate in the men's 20 km.
