Lagoa signed on Tuesday, April 4th, its Local Security Contract with the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI), in order to promote cooperation between the central administration, local authorities and local communities in the area of ​​security .

The presentation of a new generation of Local Security Contract took place at the Municipal Auditorium, at a working meeting between the Secretary of State for Internal Administration, the presidents of Barlavento Municipal Chambers and representatives of the PSP and GNR.

The contract aims to prevent juvenile delinquency, through intervention in school, family and community risk factors, as well as the reinforcement of police visibility.

It also promotes gender equality and the reduction of social vulnerabilities among social groups traditionally targeted by violence.

Francisco Martins, mayor of Lagoa, after signing the contract, stressed that "despite being a low crime council, it will benefit from having a centralizing entity with powers of intervention".

For her part, Secretary of State Isabel Oneto reinforced the importance of this new generation of Local Security Contracts, which “reinforce security, increase the feeling of security and the level of confidence of the populations through bringing security forces closer to citizens , making the police service more effective and efficient”.

These contracts have three types: MAI Municipality, MAI Bairro and MAI Cidadão, and Lagoa now has a MAI Municipality, in which, «in addition to the police and government authorities, a strong involvement of the Municipal Security Council and the adhesion of the whole the community, with the Local Power having a great importance, due to the proximity of the Parish Councils and Unions in relation to the population and its needs».
