Public lighting in the municipality of Alcoutim will be gradually replaced by LED technology, in accordance with a protocol signed between that City Council and EDP Distribuição.

Thus, the autarchy and EDP Distribuição considered it opportune for the parties to agree on the revision of Annex I to the Type Concession Agreement. "Under the terms of the Protocol, priority will be given to the creation of new public lighting networks, in the replacement of mercury vapor luminaires and obsolete equipment", says the Alcoutim Chamber.

This initiative allows, according to the municipality, "to reinforce the commitment to energy efficiency and intelligent management of networks, with a clear improvement in the quality of service".

“The measures to be adopted will not only have an impact on the environmental area but will also allow for greater cost savings”, he adds.

This is because, according to the Alcoutim Chamber, «LED technology has evolved in recent years, becoming more mature at a technical level, with great repercussions in terms of the diversity of offer and price reductions»-

“From an economic perspective, LED technology is today more interesting than high pressure sodium vapor (VSAP) technology, in particular because of its superior energy efficiency”, he concludes.
