A «big march» with horn against tolls on Via do Infante (A22) takes place this Monday, April 17, at 15 pm, and will travel along the EN00 from the restaurant “Zé do Norte”, on Quatro Estradas (from where it starts) to Lagoa.

Organized by the Commission of Users of Via do Infante (CUVI), this action aims to «continue the pressure and struggle to quickly reverse the situation in the Algarve, leading once again to a toll-free region».

According to this commission “the contract of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) of Via do Infante is very onerous for the State and taxpayers, standing above the 30 million annual loss. It is also necessary to take into account that a large part of the Via do Infante was built using European funds, not being included in the financing model of the ex-Scuts».

Prime Minister António Costa «recognized before the legislative elections that the EN125 was a “cemetery” and considered eliminating tolls in the Algarve, not only due to the high number of accidents, but also in view of the serious damage caused to the regional economy», considers the CUVI.

«We must urgently put an end to this terrible situation in the Algarve, the main tourist region in the country, before another summer begins. The main political leaders and those with decision on the matter cannot continue to whistle to one side, pretending that nothing is happening in the Algarve», he adds.

According to data from CUVI, «between 1 January and 7 April, 125 accidents occurred in the Algarve (mostly on the EN2214) (with 10 deaths and 38 serious injuries)».

For this committee, the EN125 is still "far from being fully requalified" and even in areas already subject to works there are "panelboard errors".

Before the march, there will be a lunch/debate at the restaurant “Zé do Norte”, at 13:00. Anyone wishing to sign up to participate in the lunch can do so by calling 919 070 032 and 963 172 608.
