The Bishop of Beja, D. João Marcos, decided to extinguish the Department of Historical and Artistic Heritage of the Diocese, at a time when the Catholic Church in this territory is "readjusting structures" in the face of "new constraints".
In a decree sent to the ECCLESIA Agency, the prelate considers that this department, created on 11 July 1984, «although it has performed a meritorious work in the promotion and dissemination of the diocesan heritage, it has not proved to be the most adequate means to achieve the objectives. who presided over its constitution'.
D. João Marcos also underlines the failures in the “dialogue, which is intended to be constant, with the clergy and with the diocesans themselves”.
