Portimonense could not guarantee the promotion to the I Liga, in the game they played this Sunday, April 23, in Viseu. The Algarvians ended up defeated 1-0 by the local Academic, in a game in which they were even the most attacking team, but showed little knowledge. The match ended with controversy, with the referee annulling an apparently clean goal in the final moments that would guarantee a draw and promotion to Portimonense.

The Portimão team is now waiting for Varzim, which hosts Sporting da Covilhã this afternoon, to see if it still celebrates its rise to the top level of Portuguese football.

Académico de Viseu even started better in the game, but Portimonense, who just needed a draw to ensure their advancement, quickly won the game and started to dominate the game. Domain that was being translated into attacks, which were resolved by the Viseense defense. On minute 27, Tabata had a strong shot from outside the area, but goalkeeper Rudolfo showed he was alert with an excellent defense.

Before the break, Portimonense still suffered a chill. On minute 38, the Viseu player Sandro Lima isolated himself, but ended up shooting over the top, in what would have been the most flagrant goal of the first half.

The second half started with the score at zero and Portimonense continued to try to get the advantage. But, despite the Algarve team having been around the opposing goal more, it was the home team to score, at 75, through Tiago Borges.

From here, the Viseu team tried to manage the result and Portimonense went looking for a draw. The visitors tried hard, but showed little knowledge in the final quarter of the terrain. Viseu defended, but it was causing the chills of Portimão, with dangerous counterattacks.

In the extra time, the referee of the match annulled a goal against Portimonense, in a confused move in the area, with many protests from the Algarve. The final whistle sounded soon after, without Portimonense being able to seal the promotion to the I League.

With the result in this game of the 38th round of the II Liga, the fifth before the end of the championship, the Algarve maintains the same 73 points, five more than Desportivo das Aves (2nd) and 15 more than Varzim (3rd), both with one less game.
