The PSD wants the Government to publicly present the new management model of the National Health Service (SNS) in the Algarve. The Social Democrats demand that the model be made known to health professionals, so that they, who will carry out its implementation, can «make the indispensable contributions to its improvement».

In a statement, sent following the visit of the Parliamentary Health Commission to the Algarve, the Algarve PSD says that, «almost a year and a half after socialist governance, Health Minister Adalberto Campos Fernandes, who then promised a new management model for the NHS in the Algarve, continues without announcing a date for the beginning of its application".

The PSD says, however, that it understands the attitude, "because if there isn't even a new model on paper, how can it commit to its implementation?".

However, as revealed by Paulo Morgado, president of the Regional Health Administration in an interview with Sul Informação, the date for the implementation of the new model, which should be the University Hospital Center of the Algarve, «is for weeks».
The new responsible for the ARS/Algarve even added that the "legislative process" is "complex", mainly because it also involves the Ministry of Finance, which has its "own procedures".

The president of ARS/Algarve also announced that the regulation, which has already been made public, will undergo changes, namely to accommodate the integration, in CHUA, of the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South (CMFRS), which is a novelty. The future of the CMFRS is, in fact, another of the concerns of the Algarve PSD, in its statement.

The Social Democrats say they would like "the Minister of Health to pronounce definitively on the fate of the Center for Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South (CMFRS)."

For the PSD, «the current lack of definition regarding its management model has led many of its professionals to question themselves about their professional destiny. It is that, without qualified professionals, the functioning of the CMFRS, within the high quality standards to which the Algarve has become accustomed, will no longer be a reality».

In the statement, the PSD also criticizes “the demagogic posture of a socialist deputy who during that same visit he told the media that the current state of the Algarve's hospitals is the result of the previous government's policy., “which destroyed the SNS in the Algarve” and that its resolution will not be easy».

Social Democratic deputies say that "such statements can only result from "bad faith" or "ignorance".

Therefore, the statement recalls that "when the PSD was called to assume government responsibilities, between 2011 and 2015, public hospitals in the region were in a situation of technical bankruptcy."

The PSD says it was necessary to reverse the situation "as the country's funding was dependent on our ability to comply with the Memorandum of Understanding, negotiated and signed by the government led by José Sócrates, whose responsibility for the state in which the socialists left the country they try at all costs to erase from the recent history of Portugal, and which we recognize to have created several difficulties for the functioning of hospitals in the region».

Even so, say the Social Democrats, «when we compare the regional health indicators of the same period with the current data, we find that the Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHA), according to the official ACSS data, dated last September, reached its lowest level».

For the PSD, “it follows that the need for financial resources in our hospitals is as necessary as the capacity and competence of those who are called to assume responsibility for their management. And as far as CHA is concerned, the numbers speak for themselves».

The communiqué also asks the Government to announce “that it has definitively abandoned the construction of the new central hospital in the Algarve. Not because we agree with that decision. But only for the sake of political truth».
