A PCP delegation, with Paulo Sá, deputy elected for the Algarve, visited the EB1/Jardim de Infancy (JI) da Conceição and EB1/JI da Lejana schools, both belonging to the Pinheiro e Rosa Schools Group, in Faro, where he explained «the problem of lack of adequate space in the structured teaching units and specialized support» of those teaching institutions.
According to the communists, at the EB1/JI School of Conceição, the unit to support the inclusion of students with autism spectrum disorders has "five students" and "works in a small room without adequate conditions".
In turn, at the EB1/JI of Lejana, the specialized support unit for the education of students with multiple disabilities and congenital deafblindness, with eight students, even works "for the time being in a classroom" with "appropriate conditions".
But “as of the next school year, this school will reach the 12 classes of the 1st cycle of Basic Education, which will occupy the 12 existing classrooms. At that time, it is planned to transfer the specialized support unit to a space separated from the multipurpose room by a wooden partition. This solution is not suitable, since this space does not have the conditions of acoustic isolation of the multipurpose room that allow its normal functioning», considers the PCP.
Thus, the Parliamentary Group of the Portuguese Communist Party, through Paulo Sá, questioned Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, Minister of Education, on “what measures will be taken so that these two units, with structured teaching and specialized support, can have adequate spaces to its normal functioning'.
To this question are added two more asked by the PCP: «the Ministry of Education acknowledges that the structured teaching unit to support the inclusion of students with autism spectrum disorders at the EB1/JI da Conceição School operates in a space without the conditions suitable?” and «the Ministry of Education recognizes that the space provided, from the next school year, for the specialized support unit for the education of students with multiple disabilities and congenital deafblindness at the EB1/JI School of Lejana is not adequate, preventing its normal operation?".
