A living space open to the entire community, which can and should be fun. It is as such that the Municipal Museum of Faro (MMF) has been out for a long time and made a point of affirming it, in practice, in the celebrations of its 123rd anniversary, on Friday and Saturday.

The Faro museum space set up a two-day program to celebrate the anniversary, which included initiatives for the most diverse audiences, some of which were unexpected.

From cooking demonstrations to alternative music concerts, activities for the youngest, guided tours and the presence of Terminal Studios caricaturists, who made themselves available to visitors, and, of course, the opening of a new exhibition, there was a little of everything. And no one had to pay, as on the days when the celebrations took place, admission to the museum was free.

“With the various initiatives that we programmed, the idea was to bring different audiences here. For this, we started on Friday, bringing students from schools here for storytelling sessions, and we promoted a show cooking in partnership with Tertúlia Algarvia», he told, to Sul Informação, Marco Lopes, director of the Municipal Museum of Faro.

On Saturday, the party continued with several initiatives, including exclusive opportunities to discover the museum's assets under the guidance of renowned experts in archeology and ancient art.

In the morning, João Pedro Bernardes, archaeologist and professor, from the University of Algarve, guided a group of visitors through the rooms that celebrate the Roman heritage of Faro, formerly Óssonoba, which culminated with an analysis of the mosaic of the God Ocean, the ex-libris of the Museum's collection. In the afternoon, Anísio Franco, from the National Museum of Ancient Art, took visitors on a tour of the MMF's Ancient Painting collection.

Once the cake was cut, there was time for a show of Magic, by Angel Del Vale and for the inauguration of the drawing exhibition “Esperante”, by Jorge Leal, «a very interesting exhibition, as it has associated some very messages. provocative'. At night, the party ended with the concert “Fenoid & Guests” and a performance by DJ Alfarroba.

“We wanted to demystify the idea, as we tried to do a few years ago, that the museum is a closed space, which only serves certain elites or groups. It also has to have its informality and is a place that can be fun and cheerful. There is a place for everyone: for those who come looking for specialized information, for families, for the youngest”, summarized Marco Lopes.
