The Union of Parishes of Moncarapacho and Fuzeta is an Eco-Parish XXI. The award, which distinguishes the parishes that work in the construction of more sustainable and inclusive communities, was presented on March 24, in Torres Vedras, to President Manuel Carlos, by ABAE (Blue Flag Association of Europe).

As explained by the municipality, «the Eco-Freguesias XXI project aims to increase sustainable development at a local scale, seeking to involve citizens in general, and parish council leaders in particular, in the construction of shared sustainability».

The award is made up of ten indicators of local sustainability and «recognizes and rewards the Parish Councils that adopt more sustainable practices in their territory, with a real and positive impact on the community».

An Eco-Parish XXI is, according to União das Freguesias, “a parish that respects the principles of sustainable development and social inclusion and justice, is economically prosperous and socially dynamic”.

In this first year of awarding the green flag, which symbolizes the Eco-Parish XXI, 39 parishes were distinguished, with the União das Freguesias de Moncarapacho and Fuzeta being the only one in the Algarve.

“This distinction is recognition for the work that the executive of the Union of Parishes of Moncarapacho and Fuzeta has developed in these years to provide the parish with conditions that improve the quality of life of its citizens,” says Manuel Carlos, president of the municipality.
