The municipality of Mértola will integrate a pilot project in the implementation of sustainable methodologies in the area of energy and climate change, under the Life Adaptate program, in which the City Council is a partner.
As the municipality explains, "the main objective of the project is to contribute to the improvement of climate policy and legislation at local level in the European Union, specifically with regard to the process of designing and implementing local adaptation policies".
Six municipalities are partners in the Life Adaptate project, two Portuguese, including Mértola, in three countries (Latvia, Portugal and Spain). "The initiative will last for approximately 49 months, starting in September this year and with an investment that exceeds 300 thousand euros", adds the Chamber.
The pilot project to be developed in Mértola includes “among other innovative actions”, the creation of “shadow areas”, with the integration of renewable energy generation.
