MED won the award for Best Medium Dimension Festival at the Iberian Festival Awards, whose winners were announced this Thursday, March 16, at a ceremony in Barcelona.

A distinction at the Iberian level that «is the culmination of many years of work, of a dedicated and committed team», in the view of Carlos Carmo, deputy mayor of Loulé Vítor Aleixo and coordinator of the MED.

“It was a memorable night. The 2016 edition was one of the best ever. Now we have the responsibility to do even better and win other prizes», he added, in statements to Rádio Universitária do Algarve (RUA) FM.

Shortly before this award was handed over to Vítor Aleixo, at the ceremony that took place in Barcelona, the vice-president of the municipality Hugo Nunes presented at BTL, in Lisbon, the next edition of Festival MED, which will include, among others, Rodrigo Leão, Ana Moura, the Brazilian Bnegão, Mayra Andrade and the Romanians Fanfare Ciocarlia.

In this second edition of the Iberian Festival Awards, the Loulé festival was nominated for six awards, three of which depend on public voting, including the one that MED won – Best Medium Size Festival, Best Alignment and Best Performance (António Zambujo), Contribution to Sustainability, Best Tourism Promotion and Best Cultural Program.

Also nominated for these last two awards, both decided by the jury, as well as for Best Medium Size Festival, was the F Festival, of Faro. The Farense event ended up not being able to collect any awards.

Among the Portuguese festivals in the competition, highlight goes to the World Music Festival in Sines, which won three awards – Best Iberian Cultural Program, Best National Festival and Best Tourism Promotion in Portugal – and Bons Sons, in Tomar, which won two awards – Better Reception and Better Alignment, both at the Iberian level.

The Iberian Festival Awards are an initiative of the Portuguese Association of Music Festivals that aim to distinguish the best festivals that take place in Portugal and Spain.
