The second edition of the Jornadas do Arade starts on Saturday, March 11th, in the auditorium of the Museu de Portimão, and continues on to Sunday, with an intense program.

After a Friday at Espaço Raiz (former Pedra Mourinha primary school), dedicated exclusively to training, through two short courses (Introduction to Associative Direction and Viver Melhor Tomorrow: An introduction to the Arade Transition movement) ), the Jornadas program opens on Saturday morning, at 9:00 am, with the conference “Aradismo: Impulse to regional development?”, by Nuno Silva.

“Aradismo” is a concept that emerged in the last Jornadas do Arade. The idea of creating working groups within civil society in order to reflect on strategies and solutions for promoting the territory and cultural landscape of the Arade Basin was immediately embraced by the Teia D'Impulsos association.

Thus, the second edition of the Jornadas will open with the launch of the project “Aradismo: Intervention Network for the Development of the Arade Basin”, which, according to Teia d'Impulsos, consists of “the formation of four reflection groups on strategic issues for the development of the region'. And the questions are: how to work the “Arade” brand; promoting health and well-being in the region; tourism – how to make an integrated offer to the territory of Arade; and promotion and dissemination of the cultural landscape of Arade.

The work of the Conference will continue on Saturdays and Sundays, bringing to the table the most current and pertinent themes, common to the four municipalities of the Arade Basin (Portimão, Lagoa, Silves and Monchique).

A special highlight for Saturday night: after the cocktail for the presentation of the seventh edition of Rota do Petisco, it will be time to give voice to the youngsters. What are the paths for the development of the Arade Basin? This will be the question posed to a group of young people from secondary education who, in recent weeks, have been invited to reflect on the future of their region.

The conclusions will be presented from 21:30 pm on Saturday, before representatives of the municipal power: Isilda Gomes (President of the Municipality of Portimão), José Alves Pinto (cab chief of the President of the Municipality of Lagoa), Rosa Palma (president of the Silves City Council) and Rui André (President of Monchique City Council).

“It will be a unique opportunity for the youngest to exercise their right as citizens with an opinion and capacity to intervene in the destiny of their localities”, stresses the association Teia d'Impulsos, which promotes the Jornadas.

On Sunday, to close the II Jornadas do Arade, the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum invites you to take a walk along the shores of History, discovering the importance of the Arade in the evolution of riverside communities. Starting at the Museu de Portimão at 16 pm, this will be an opportunity to get to know a little about the past of the Arade River and its people, after two full days projecting its future.

The Jornadas do Arade is an initiative of the Teia D'Impulsos association, as part of the CAIC – Active Citizenship and Civic Intervention project, which has the support of the municipalities of Portimão, Lagoa, Silves and Monchique, of the Parish Council of Portimão, from Museu de Portimão, CCDR Algarve and various local organizations and companies that make this initiative possible.

Admission is free, but subject to registration, through the website www.jornadasdoarade.pt, where you can also obtain more information about the II Jornadas do Arade and enroll in one of the two short courses that take place on Friday, May 10, at Espaço Raiz.
