The works contract for the requalification of the entry of Faro next to Forum Algarve, Avenida Dr. Gordinho Moreira, was signed this Thursday by Rogério Bacalhau, but the start of work will have to await approval from the Court of Auditors.
This project is part of the program Faro It reclassifies 2 and is considered by the City Council as an «essential work for the improvement of road and pedestrian circulation, as well as for the creation of better conditions of safety and dignity for this entrance to the city».
This work has an execution period of 120 days and will cost around 481 thousand euros + VAT, and the requalification works, which were awarded to the company “Sociedade Cordivias – Engenharia Lda.”, will start «as soon as the municipality receives the approval of the Court of Auditors'.
The municipality explains that “in addition to the complete repaving of the entire carpet, between the Montenegro junction and the BP filling station, these works also include the correction of the route in order to give the road the characteristics of an urban road, in an attempt to harmonize the coexistence between motorized vehicles and people».
With this objective, «the restoration of sidewalks on the north edge and the creation of a pedestrian corridor to the south are contemplated, to facilitate and provide safety for pedestrians' circulation».
The Chamber said that "a traffic light will also be installed, which will allow the crossing of the road more safely, in the bridge area".
Another objective of this intervention is to improve drainage, «especially on the southern edge where, when it rains with abundance, there are episodes of flooding on the neighboring properties», adds the municipality.
The autarchy emphasizes that «despite the delays caused by the non-approval of the Municipal Investment Plan by the Government, the Program Faro Requalifica 2 is evolving at a good pace».
Three other interventions are currently taking place: the redevelopment of the pedestrian areas and gardens of Av. 5 de Outubro, the redevelopment of the Estrada de São Luís and the construction of the new Largo das Mouras Velhas.
