The Municipality of Castro Marim organizes the second edition of this unprecedented tribute to the eternal genius of the guitar and absolute master of contemporary flamenco, Paco de Lucía, the “Festival de Lucía”.

Paco de Lucía (born in Algeciras, in neighboring Andalusia), recognized as one of the best composers and guitarists in the world, had his roots in Castro Marim, more specifically in Monte Francisco, the land where his mother, Lucía, was born.

It is in this umbilical connection that the “Festival de Lucía” is based, honoring a guitar of various languages, crossings and hues, like the one that Paço de Lucía inhabited its audience, but also honoring women, through the memory of his mother, whose joy and a Portuguese face has always inspired him. This is Paco Português, who dedicated a record to this land, “Castro Marin”, and to his mother.

The Festival de Lucía is a music festival, which the organization intends to be, every year, «a planetary inspiration for all who can and wish to share the eternity of genius».

After the first event, held in 2016, which took on a more intimate character and was applauded by around 700 people, it is time to expand this Festival and give it a new concept.

The 2017 edition will then have two nights (18 and 19 August), and its program includes concerts, flamenco dancing and a collective art exhibition, not having a single stage, but taking place in various cultural spaces in the village of Castro Marim.

Associated with the event, the Municipality of Castro Marim intends to take on a dynamic role in the enhancement, awareness and dissemination of the arts and new artists, promoting, for this purpose, the project, already in existence for some years, “Artistas de Cá”, which invites artists from all over the country to present works about Paco de Lucía.

The “Artistas de Cá” initiative was born with the aim of increasing the arts in the region, making new artists known and raising public awareness. .

The works resulting from this initiative will be exhibited in the village of Castro Marim and in Casa do Sal, the county's cultural hub.

The festival intends to bring to you the new values of guitar and flamenco, providing a stage for individual artists or groups that wish to act there. The aim is thus to form an association with the region's artistic schools dedicated to guitar and flamenco, artistic expressions evident in the cultural legacy of Paco de Lucía.
