It is with leavened dough with baker's yeast, sugar, scented with cinnamon and fennel, decorated with whole eggs, that Easter Folar is made in São Marcos da Serra. And it is he, accompanied by a lot of traditional and popular music, the star of the Folar Fair in this parish in the municipality of Silves, which opens its doors on the 14th, 15th and 16th of April.
Thus, between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, traditional producers of folar and other mountain delicacies will be present at this event, which seeks to «promote the interior of the county and popular culture, namely in the parish of São Marcos da Serra, broadcasting the know-how of local people, their traditions, gastronomy and handicraft and involving agents and representatives of the local community», explains the Municipality of Silves.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Silves, with the support of the local Parish Council, Serrano Futebol Clube, the Humanitarian Association of São Marcos and the Mutual Agricultural Credit Bank of São Bartolomeu de Messines and São Marcos da Serra and the Region of Algarve tourism.
