Clube Oriental de Pechão won eight national champion titles

Ana Cabecinha, in the 20 km race walk, in seniors, Carolina Costa, in the 10-kilometer race, in juniors, and Etson Barros, in the men's juvenile cross country, were some of the athletes from the Clube Oriental de Pechão who became national champions, on the 4th and 5th of March, in São João da Madeira and in Mira de Aire.

In total, the Algarve team brought eight titles in their luggage.

These are joined by the collective national title in female seniors to which she also contributed, the good performance of Edna Barros, with 1h43m31s, who was 4th (silver medal in the under-23), reaching the qualification for the European of Hopes . Laura Leal, on the other hand, won the bronze medal in the under-23, with 1h46m5s.

In juniors, in addition to Carolina Costa's victory, with 51m20s, Rodrigo Marques was also crowned national champion, covering 10 kilometers in 45m25s. Both reached the qualifying mark for the Marching European Cup. Ednice Barros was 4th, with 58m5s, and Bruna Colónia reached 5th, with the time of 58m19s. The collective victory in female juniors also smiled to Clube Oriental de Pechão.

In the youth class, 5 kilometers, Ana Vicente was 4th with 28m43s, Tatiana Cabecinha was 10th with 31m46s and Fatoumata Diallo 11th with 32m10s. These results gave the Algarvian team the women's team title for the sixth consecutive year.

In the four-kilometer starter race, the national tournament “Marchador Jovem”, Ana Catarina Mestre was 5th with a time of 22m36s, Sofia Marques was 6th (23m4s)m Érica Cabecinha was 7th with 23m38s and Telma Mendes reached 12th position ( 24m40s). The Clube Oriental de Pechão was thus crowned collective champion.

Of the eight athletes from Clube Oriental de Pechão who participated in the National Cross Country Championship, Etson Barros was the one who was in evidence, when he became champion.

The athlete “did a very intelligent race, even with the mishap of covering about half of the race without one of the pointed shoes, he won a great category at a distance of five kilometers”, says the Clube Oirental de Pechão.

Still in juveniles, Fatoumata Diallo was 25th, Laura Lopes reached 38th position, Luís Gaspar 63rd, Alexandre Santos 64th and Vasco Cruz closes the list, having been 85th.

The male youth team reached, in turn, the 10th place in collective terms. In juniors, Aires Rodrigues finished 41st and João Marques 63rd. “Everyone is to be congratulated for the way they overcame the difficulties of the terrain, with mud, sand and some rain”, says the Algarve team.
